Excellent Introduction to DV production

I found this book very easy and enjoyable to read. The author is very thorough and the example material is just enough to get you going. I highly suggest this book for anyone looking for a DV production primer.

Review - iPhone: The Missing Manual

The Best Accessory You Can Buy for the iPhone

"The book that should have been in the box" but be glad it wasn't because the book wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it is or as funny. The Author is constantly making comments on how inferrer the at&t Edge network is, and the way he does it is amusing. I was one of those people who had to get the iPhone on the first day of issue, and have used it everyday since, this book is the best accessory you can buy for your iPhone hands down. There are time saving tips, short cuts in every chapter and even a few money saving tips like how to make free yes FREE overseas phone calls using your iPhone. I bought this book as a reference and ended up reading the whole book cover to cover. It's well written, concise and has lots of photos and examples. One of the areas I found most useful in this book was how to use your iPhone to sync addresses and address books from multiple computers using your iPhone. That info itself was worth the price of the book, it was a huge time saver for me. If you own an iPhone I highly recommend this book to unlock the power of your awesome device.

Review - Head First Object-Oriented Analysis and Design

Easy to Understand

I found this book to be quite an interesting and enjoyable experience considering the weighty topic and tendency for the material to be pretty dry. The Examples are well thought through and pointed. I would suggest it for anyone interested in OOP Design.

Review - High Performance Web Sites

A Great Resource!

This book is extremely well organized and easy to read. It is code-oriented; server and database tuning are not addressed though some general ideas are discussed in passing.

Narrative explanations are combined with real world examples and code samples to illustrate each of the fourteen "rules" for tuning a web site. He clearly explains the pros and cons of each option, and why some techniques are better than others. He provides a primary recommendation but also discusses other options at length. This book is scalable to help developers of small-business web sites up to enterprise e-commerce sites.

Many of the "rules" are not necessarily a surprise to anyone with much web development experience. However the speed comparison charts and illustrations are extremely helpful, and many helpful "gold nuggets" of information are also sprinkled throughout.

After a full read, this book is now on my shelf within easy reach so that I can refer to the invaluable tips and code samples. I highly recommend that any serious web developer add this book to their bookshelf!

Review - Photoshop CS3 One-On-One

An excellent resource!

As a person who has been familiar with various aspects of Photoshop for years, I was unsure if this book would give me the information that I wanted to learn. I've been able to learn various tasks that can be done in Photoshop, but these have been very limited and I've wanted to take my skills to a higher level. Also, as someone who dabbles in digital photography, I'm also interested in learning new skills to help me reproduce my images.

This book is excellent! Not only is the book flat out gorgeous to look at and thumb through, with full color on virtually every page, I found the addition of the DVD tutorials extremely helpful and well done. There are almost 3 hours of video, and for a visual learner such as myself I found it invaluable to watch the video first and then follow along with the book at my own pace.

As you likely already know, Photoshop is an extremely complex software and it is not a very intuitive one at that, at least until you get to know your way around. Adobe CS3 one-on-one will help you tremendously if you are new to the program. I found that I learned a ton of new stuff and had a great refresher for things I had already learned in the past.

When I'm asked by friends or family what book to use to learn Photoshop, this is the one! You will not be disappointed.
